Chicago Bull's Joakim Noah arrested on drug charges!

MIAMI, May 25 (Reuters) - Chicago Bulls basketball player Joakim Noah, the son of French former tennis star Yannick Noah, was charged on Sunday with possession of marijuana.
Police in Gainesville, Florida, where Noah starred on two national collegiate championship teams with the University of Florida, said the player was spotted by officers on a street in the downtown bar district early on Sunday with a cup containing alcohol.

"He put the cup down on the street and walked away when he saw the officers, a pretty good indication that it didn't just contain juice or something," Gainesville Police spokeswoman Summer Hallett said.

Carrying an open container of alcohol is a misdemeanor offense in Gainesville, she said.

Police checked the cup and found it contained alcohol. When they searched Noah, officers found a marijuana cigarette in a cigarette pack in his pocket, Hallett said.

Noah was charged with possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana and carrying an open container of alcohol in public, both misdemeanors. Because of the nature of the offenses he was given a court date at the scene and released immediately.

Noah helped the Florida Gators to national college championships in 2006 and 2007 and was taken by the Bulls with the 9th selection in the 2007 National Basketball Association draft.

He averaged 6.6 points and 5.6 rebounds per game in his rookie season in the NBA.

DOURDAN PLANS TO TEACH OTHERS ABOUT THE DANGERS OF DRUGS.

Shamed CSI: CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION star GARY DOURDAN is planning a series of events to "get the word out that you don't need a bunch of nasty chemicals to have a good time" in the wake of his drug possession arrest last week (28Apr08). The actor was apprehended by police in Palm Springs, California after he was found asleep in his incorrectly parked car after attending the Coachella Festival.

Dourdan hopes to announce his plans by the time he is arraigned on 28 May (08).
The actor has already apologised publicly to fans and now he's apologising to country star Taylor Swift after his legal woes in the desert forced him to pull out of a planned awards show to honour the singer. Dourdan was set to present Swift with an award at Hollywood Life magazine's 10th Annual Young Hollywood Awards last week. He says, "I am so sorry to all my fans, especially the young ones, like Taylor Swift, who I should've been supporting... instead of driving tired in the desert."

Benson arrested for boating while intoxicated and resisting arrest.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) -- Chicago Bears running back Cedric Benson failed a sobriety test while operating a 30-foot boat, then resisted arrest before being hit with pepper spray and dragged ashore by officers.

Benson faces charges of boating while intoxicated and resisting arrest after the incident Saturday night on Lake Travis, Travis County Sheriff's Department spokesman Roger Wade said.

Benson was released from jail early Sunday on a $14,500 bond. A call to Benson's agent was not immediately returned.

Benson was operating the boat with 15 passengers aboard when he was stopped by a Lower Colorado River Authority officer for a random safety inspection. He failed a field sobriety test on the officer's boat and was uncooperative when the officer tried to take him ashore, the authority said.

"When Benson did not pass the test, he presented himself as a threat to the officer and argued about whether or not he would be taken to land to have a follow-up field sobriety test performed on land and refused to put on a life jacket," the authority said in a statement.

The officer had to use pepper spray to subdue Benson. He then refused to leave the officer's boat and authorities had to drag him to a car to be taken to the Travis County jail, the authority said.

LOHAN'S MUG SHOT NEW FACE OF ANTI-ALCOHOL CAMPAIGN .

A U.S. restaurant/liquor group are using LINDSAY LOHAN'S mug shot to launch a campaign against new technology aimed at keeping intoxicated drivers off the road. The American Beverage Institute (ABI), a restaurant trade association which promotes responsible alcohol consumption, has taken out a full-page ad in American newspaper USA Today featuring the troubled star's photo, taken after she was arrested in Los Angeles last year (07) for driving drunk.

A caption reads: "Ignition interlocks. A good idea for:" (Lohan) "But a bad idea for us:" displaying pictures of adults enjoying alcohol at restaurants and weddings. The ad claims ignition interlocks, devices which prevent drunks from starting their cars, are "a great tool for getting hard-core drunk drivers off our roads" - but if the technology is installed in every vehicle, it could mean "an end to moderate and responsible drinking prior to driving." Blair Berk, Lohan's lawyer, says the 21-year-old "fully endorses ignition interlock devices". The ABI says it plans to use mug shots of other stars arrested for driving under the influence in its ongoing campaign, but did not specify details.
